If you want to feel the spirit of the Podhale region, come to the Highland Folklore International Festival which has been held in Zakopane since 1934. This event, held every year in August, attracts both the inhabitants of Zakopane and tourists from all over the world. Folk music can be heard in each part of the city as the city centre turns into the festival village, whereas the whole town of Zakopane become the host to lots of folk ensembles from all over the world.
This year the Festival’s Competition is held from Monday till Thursday, whereas the final concert takes place on Friday.
You are also invited to take part in the following events accompanying the Festival:
• Folk Bands, Instrumentalists and Soloists Competition (Monday – Tuesday);
• Folk Craft Market – held in the festival’s village from the beginning till the end of the Festival; • The Coachman of the Year Contest – an interesting event that opens the festival; • National Days – held from Monday till Thursday, where you can learn regional dances, try the cuisine and find out more about the country and region presented; • Open Days in Zakopane Artists’ Studios.
